Managing Director / Head Stylist
I passed my trade test in 1989 and have been a successful qualified hairdresser for 26years. Starting out with an apprenticeship at Carlton Hair International in Johannesburg then moving to Jeauval in 1989 where I became Salon Manager. I got the opportunity to travel to Dubai for work and did hair for the Princess of Bahrain. I was also involved in doing hair for news presenters and celebrities. I worked closely with the South African Hairdressing Association and was a ‘wise man’ in competition judging for the National Championships in hairdressing.
I moved to Louth in 2002 and took the year off. I then started my hairdressing business from my house salon in 2003 until relocating to Louth Golf club to my new premises in 2015. The business has never been advertised and has grown from strength to strength through word of mouth.
I feel strongly that hair is only one aspect of grooming. So, by combining hair, make-up and nails, my clients will have a one stop shop for all their beauty needs at my new salon.
I have always been involved in wedding and event hair and now can offer clients a total look solution with the use of hairpieces and accessories to ensure my customers have the look they want to make any event extra special. We can accommodate parties large and small. Get in touch today to discuss your special event.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A HAIRDRESSER?
Over 26 years.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A HAIRDRESSER?
I was always practising being a hairdresser from a very young age. I started playing around with hair colour and dyed my own hair bright pink at the age of 14 with cochineal food colouring. I got into a lot of trouble for that, as did my parents for letting me do it; but they had no idea what my intentions were. I was very strong willed and got my own way in the end and have never looked back.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HAIR DO OF ALL TIME?
I don’t have a favourite hairdo! I just like to see what works on an individual. I like to bring out the best in people and see their confidence grow when they feel good about themselves. It is also about trying to find a style for a client that they can manage and that makes them more open to having style changes.
WHO IS YOUR CELEBRITY HAIR ICON?
I don’t have a particular celebrity icon. I love to see what everyone is doing. I find it interesting that sometimes a Celebrity will do something to make a statement and it doesn’t always work!
It just goes to show that you need to stick with what works and not always try to make a statement because sometimes you are doing it for the wrong reasons.
